Donating to the Guardian Angels

Changes were made to the New Zealand Income Tax Act 2007 that provide significant tax incentives to New Zealand taxpayers for donating money to charities like the Guardian Angels. You can now donate as much as you like to the charity or charities of your choice and receive one-third of the total amount as a tax credit for that tax year.

These changes are exciting news for charities across New Zealand because you, as a donor, are now no longer subjected to arbitrary limits: the decision on how much money you want to donate to charity is left to you. It can be as little as five dollars or as much as your entire taxable income, or any amount in-between.

This also makes it important for you to receive official donation receipts for the amounts that you do give, so that you can claim your tax credits when you file your income tax.

New Zealand Registered Charity

The International Alliance of Guardian Angels NZ Charitable Trust is registered with the New Zealand Charities Commission (#CC10258).  Our trustees, finances and Deed of Trust are all a matter of public record an can be examined by you. This means that our Organization is accountable to the government an to you, the community members whom we serve.

We have also been granted “Donee Status” by the NZ Inland Revenue Department. This means that we are able to issue official donation receipts for income tax purposes for qualifying donations over five dollars. It also means that our Organization has met the social and legal requirements that permit it to operate as a qualifying Charity in New Zealand. Again, this contributes to our accountability to you, as members of our community.

In order to receive your donation receipt, please make sure you include your postal address with your donation. We cannot send your donation receipt electronically because the IRD require it to be an original signed hardcopy document bearing our official seal. If you lose your donation receipt we are able to send you a replacement copy, but again it must be a hardcopy document.

Donating online

The easiest and most convenient way to send us a donation is online. We use PayPal® — a safe, secure way for you to donate with confidence.

You will be asked for your mailing address so that we can send your donation receipt.

Electronic banking

Another great way to send us a donation is by using your bank’s online electronic banking facilities. The International Alliance of Guardian Angels New Zealand bank with Kiwibank because they are New Zealand-based and look after us really well — better than any foreign bank ever could. Here are our account details:

Please be sure to follow-up your funds transfer with an e-mail message advising us of your donation and your mailing address, so that we can say “thank-you” and send your donation receipt.

Automatic payments

Like all organizations, the Guardian Angels do have regular expenses, and it is really helpful to be able to rely on receiving donations on a regular basis. It helps us to be able to plan ahead, knowing that our expenses are covered: people like you, who make regular automatic donations are real heroes!

To make it easier for you to help us, we’re building Automatic Payment forms for all the banks in New Zealand — just click on your bank’s logo to download, print it, fill in the blanks and take it to your bank for processing. If you don’t see your bank’s logo here, send us an e-mail to remind us to get it done, and then watch this space!

On your Automatic Payment form there two fields that you should use to help us identify your donation as coming from you. Please be sure to fill in the 12-character “Code” and “Reference” fields with your name. so that we can match your donation against our records.

Once you have lodged your Automatic Payment authority with the Bank, please be sure to drop us an e-mail so that we will have your mailing address on file: otherwise we will have no way to send your donation receipt.

Checks

Checks can be made payable to Guardian Angels and sent to PO Box 121343, Henderson 0650, Auckland. Please cross your checks “Not Negotiable” and ensure that your envelope is marked with your return address so that we can say “thank-you” and send you an official donation receipt. Alternatively, please include your mailing address on a note attached to your check.

Cash

Cash donations can be given to any uniformed Guardian Angel, or at any Kiwibank branch. Again, if you donate five dollars or more please provide your mailing address along with your donation so that we can send a donation receipt to you
